The Society particularly welcomes young people with an interest in Science, Art, Literature and Philosophy to become Members.

To become a Full Member of the Society, you must be nominated and seconded by a Fellow or a Full Member of the Society (see below). For Full Members, there is a joining fee of $25, payable only in the first year of membership. (If you wish to join and you do not personally know a Fellow or a Full Member, please contact the Society's office and we can arrange for an introduction. Often, people decide to join after attending meetings as a visitor.)
Full Members who wish to have their professional qualifications recognised by the Society may apply to the Society's Council to be entitled to use the post-nominal "MRSN". (There is an annual fee determined each year by the Council to use the post-nominal. Click the link to download the application form.)
Associate Membership is available to spouses or partners of applicants who become Full Members, to undergraduate and postgraduate students (aged under 25) of tertiary institutions and to high school students.
Australians of distinction may be nominated for Fellowship of the Society. Currently, there are 14 Fellows with distinguished international reputations in their fields. Two of the Society's Fellows are winners of the Nobel Prize. Any Full Member of the Society may nominate a candidate for consideration for Fellowship.
Honorary Members are elected from time to time by the Society's Council. They are people of eminent learned attainment or people who have been benefactors of NSW or other Australian states or who have been distinguished promoters of the Society. There are never more than 20 Honorary Members at any one time. Honorary Members may not hold office, vote or otherwise take part in the business of the Society.
A reduced retired membership rate is available to Full Members who certify in writing that thety are over the age of 60 and not in receipt of income against which membership fees woudld be tax-deductible. (Click the link to download the declaration form.)
If you wish to become a Member of the Society, please print out the Application for Full Membership (Australian resident) 2013, Application for Full Membership (resident outside Australia) 2013, Application for Associate Membership (Close relative) or the Application for Associate Membership (under 25). Complete the application details in Section A, sign the Undertaking and mail to:

Please include the appropriate annual subscription payment and Joining Fee with the nomination form or effect the payment electronically as per the details on the form.
Applicants who are known to current Members of the Society can ask them to propose or second their nomination, in which case those Members can sign the appropriate Proposing or Seconding Member boxes in Section B of the Application Certificate. Otherwise, just send in the form and Council of the Society, after considering the application, will complete this Section.
Applicants granted Full Membership receive a membership certificate bearing the seal of the Society.
