The 1071st General Monthly Meeting, The AGM and the
Presidential Address On April 1st the Society held its Annual General Meeting in the Hallstrom Theatre at the Australian Museum. The Council's Annual Report was presented and accepted followed by election of the new Council for the coming year. The Presidential Address by Dr E. C. Potter, " Applied Scientific Research: I Did It My Way", was very well received. At the conclusion of the address members and guests enjoyed an excellent meal at the local Indian restaurant. |

The 1072nd General Monthly Meeting On May 6, 1998 the 1072nd General Monthly Meeting of the Society was addressed at the Australian Museum, Sydney, by Assoc. Prof. M. J. Fulham, Director of the Department of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Nuclear Medicine, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown, Sydney, Australia. Dr Fulham spoke on Functional Imaging in the Neurosciences |

The 1073rd General Monthly Meeting This important meeting was held at the Society's Office in Herring Rd, Marsfield to discuss changes in our Constitution. The number of members attending was insufficient to constitute a quorum, so no votes were taken, but those present took the opportunity to discuss the proposals as circulated in the Bulletin. Straw polls indicated that those present were in favour of all three proposals. Council will further consider what steps should be taken. |

The 1074th General Monthly Meeting and The Annual
Liversidge Research Lecture Liversidge, a distinguished Australian Chemist who spanned the divide between 19th and 20th centuries, re-invigorated the Royal Society of New South Wales late in the 1800's. Since 1928 he has been commemorated in the Society's Liversidge Research Lecture. The latest in this series was given by Professor L.F. Lindoy of the School of Chemistry, University of Sydney on 1st July 1998 at the University under the chairmanship of the Society's President, Dr D.J. O'Connor. Professor Lindoy spoke on New Molecular Receptors for Small Molecules and Ions. |

The 1076th General Monthly Meeting This was a Joint meeting with The Australian Institute of Physics. Dr Bernard Pailthorpe spoke on Applications of High Performance Computing and Communication. |

The 1077th General Monthly Meeting A/Prof. A. T. Baker gave an engaging lecture on Dwyer and Lions Revisited: Complexes of Sexadentate Ligands, at the University of Technology, Sydney. |

The 1078th General Monthly Meeting This evening was a Joint Symposium with the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science. Three speakers gave interesting talks on the topic: Recent Research on Limestone Caves. The talks were held at the Australian Museum. |
