The Poggendorff Memorial Lecture
Water and Limitations to World Agriculture
Peter Cullen CRC, FE
Date: Thursday October 21st, 1999
Time: 6.00pm
Venue: Southern Highlands Branch
Frensham School, Mittagong
ABSTRACT
Is water the factor limiting the carrying capacity of the planet? The Worlds freshwater resources will be described and an estimate given of how much humans are currently exploiting. The problem would appear to be more the mis management of the water resource rather than the total amount. More efficient use of water will ensure it is available for some time. Examples from the Murray-Darling basin will be given to demonstrate this global picture.
